Saddlers' Stu is the cat’s whiskers for fan Leo, 9
Walsall FC players surprised a school pupil with a visit ahead of the match where he will be a mascot.
Saddlers players Stuart Sinclair and James Clarke paid a surprise visit to this Saturday’s Community Mascot on Thursday afternoon.
Nine-year-old Leo Garratt from Whetstone Field Primary School was stunned when his favourite player Sinclair, along with skipper Clarke, interrupted a school assembly to meet the young Walsall fan.
Leo was also a flag bearer with the school for the Saddlers’ win over Scunthorpe last month, and will now get to walk out with the players as a mascot this weekend.
Leo's mum, Carly Garratt, said: "Leo was absolutely overwhelmed. He was obviously very very surprised and couldn’t believe what had happened. He was over the moon to be honest with you.
"I don’t think he could believe his luck that the players were there. I don’t think he will ever forget it to be honest with you and it will make Saturday even more exciting. He’s supported them all his life along with all his family. The whole family support Walsall."
Sinclair and Clarke also took part in a question and answer session with pupils, posed for photos and met Leo’s parents who were in attendance.
Walsall FC Community Programme have linked in with the charity Free Kicks Foundation, and have selected a community mascot for every Walsall home league game this season.
