Wolverhampton North East MP Jane Stevenson said she was appalled at the "incredibly reckless and dangerous" behaviour in Low Hill on Sunday night.

Footage showed people on Kempthorn Avenue firing the projectiles at passing vehicles.

Ms Stevenson said in a statement: "I was appalled to see this incredibly reckless and dangerous behaviour in Bushbury last night, with fireworks being launched at cars and houses.

"I immediately contacted the chief superintendent for Wolverhampton, who alerted local police officers. He is making sure this area will be regularly patrolled over the next fortnight.

"Many people have already contacted me about fireworks, concerned about safety and also the effect on their pets. I would certainly like to see a noise limit on any fireworks that are for sale to the public.

"About 2,000 people need hospital treatment each year for injuries caused by fireworks. A third of these are children, many with life-changing injuries including blindness.

"It is illegal for shops to sell fireworks to anyone under 18. You can be fined up to £5,000 and imprisoned for up to six months for selling or using fireworks illegally.

"You could also get an on-the-spot fine of £90.

"Please contact the police if you see behaviour like this, or if you know someone who is selling fireworks to under 18s."

It was one of several incidents involving youths in the Black Country on Sunday. Over in Walsall, a group of teenagers attacked a driver and threw a brick at a bus after turning its engine off from the outside.
