The 58-year-old was treated by paramedics after being hit by the vehicle at Five Ways Island on Cannock Road at about 6.30am on March 25, before being taken to Walsall Manor Hospital.

The man's daughter, who asked to remain anonymous, is now appealing for witnesses or for the driver to come forward.

She said: "He was left for dead face down in a bush with two broken bones in his neck.

"He can hardly walk now and has a bruise from his hip down to his knee, it's black and purple. The injuries he's sustained are horrific.

"He had to be taken to hospital in what is probably the worst time in history for the NHS.

"He was tested for coronavirus and the results came back negative.

"I'm angry that someone can do this and just drive away.

"He was on his way to work that day like everybody else.

"They could do it again and what happens if it's a child or an elderly person next time.

"Maybe if whoever this was has a conscience they'll come forward."

Jordan Eggington, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 6.47am on the 25th March to reports of a collision involving a cyclist and car on Cannock Road.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. We treated one patient, a man, who was the cyclist, for potentially serious injuries. He was then taken to Walsall Manor for further treatment.”

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers had been called to the Five Ways Island on Cannock Road shortly after 6.45am on Wednesday 25 March to reports a man had come off his bike following an alleged road traffic collision.

"It’s believed the other driver involved did not stop.

"The 58-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries which were deemed to not be life-threatening. He is now recovering at home. Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with any information should message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter quoting incident number 75 of 25 March, call 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
