The man was cycling on the outskirts of Clayhanger village when he was struck by a dark 4x4 car at around 6.45pm on Saturday.

The car failed to stop after hitting the cyclist on Bridge Street at its junction with High Street near Clayhanger Common.

The 44-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remained in a critical condition on Sunday.

West Midlands Police has launched an investigation and officers are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage to contact them.

They have also appealed directly to the driver to come forward.

Sergeant Alan Hands, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I am appealing directly for the driver of a dark 4x4 which will have significant damage to its front end and possibly its windscreen, to come forward.

“We need to work out exactly what happened and I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who has dash-cam footage before or after the collision, or saw the car leaving.”

Anyone with information is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident 3013 of March 7. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
