A woman arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was run over at a Black Country industrial estate has been released under investigation.

The man, 46, was seriously injured when he was hit by a car on the Canalside Industrial Estate in Brierley Hill on Saturday.

Police said this morning that the victim is critical but stable.

The 34-year-old female suspect was released under investigation.

Part of the estate remained cordoned off yesterday as forensic teams examined the scene next to the Stourbridge Canal just off Brettell Lane.

Two police tents had been put up near M Arnold Vehicle repairs, which is based in a unit off Wedgbury Way.

One is understood to be covering the place where the man was hit and another is believed to be covering a car next to the entrance to the garage.

Police were called by paramedics just after 6pm on Saturday but the incident is thought to have happened some time earlier.

The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he remained in a serious condition on Saturday.

Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to reports of an incident on Wedgbury Way, Brierley Hill at 3.44pm on Saturday.

"One ambulance attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to hospital for further assessment."
