Ambulance staff treated a woman and two children inside a car which was hit during the police pursuit.

The group, who were in a VW Passat, were taken to hospital for treatment on injuries not believed to be serious, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Police were pursuing a suspected stolen BMW when the crash happened, at Scotts Green Island, at the junction of Stourbridge Road and Duncan Edwards Way, just before 1.45pm on Sunday.

West Midlands Police said an officer was also injured as they tried to arrest the driver.

But they fled the scene and a police search is still under way.

Police today said a 20-year-old passenger in the BMW was injured.

He was later arrested on suspicion of robbery.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, Jamie Arrowsmith, said: "We were called to reports of a two-car collision at the junction of Stourbridge Road and Dudley Southern Bypass at 1.45pm yesterday.

"We sent three ambulances and two officers to the scene.

"A woman and two boys were all treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further assessment."
