Man, 75, assaulted during violent Sedgley carjacking

A 75-year-old man was hit over the head with a handgun before his car was stolen in a carjacking.

The attack left the victim needing hospital treatment for a cut after the robbery in Sedgley on Tuesday night.

Two men are believed to have followed their victim into a quiet cul-de-sac on Wilton Close, at around 9.45pm, before pouncing.

The suspects escaped in the stolen Volkswagen Polo and a getaway vehicle. It is not known whether the gun was real or imitation.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Police received a 999 call at 9.45pm on Tuesday reporting a carjacking in Wilton Close, Sedgley.

“It’s understood two male offenders in another car followed the 75-year-old driver into the cul-de-sac before threatening him with a handgun and hitting him over the head.

“It’s not known at this stage whether the gun was genuine or an imitation.

"The victim received hospital treatment for a cut. One man made off in the victim’s VW Polo with the other leaving in their getaway car.

“Enquiries are underway. "
