The suspects, who were inside a dark-coloured car, were caught by police following the chase down Dartmouth Circus, Birmingham, this morning at around 12.30am.

Police say they believe the occupants are behind dozens of car thefts in the West Midlands.

Traffic officers used a manoeuvre called tactical contact, which involves making physical contact with the car, to bring it to a halt.

Central Motorway Police Group, which patrols in region's highways and roads, tweeted: "Fantastic work last night, officers used ‘Tactical Contact’ on a stolen car that had been driven the wrong way down a dual carriageway.

"Occupants involved in dozens of vehicle thefts in WMP. Both arrested with no injuries. We will use contact if you put the public at risk. #TPAC"
