Officers were called to reports of a child roughly three years of age alone in Wednesfield.

They then worked out where she lived and saw that it was an insecure flat with no adults inside.

Wednesfield Police tweeted saying: "Today our PCSOs responded to a call regarding a child around three years old all alone in the street.

"We ascertained where she lived and found an insecure flat with no adults present. Further enquiries led to mom coming home having gone to work leaving the child alone. Frightening!!!"

Sarah Moran, spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to reports of a young girl found walking in Okement Drive, Wednesfield, at just after 9.30am today.

"Following enquiries by officers the child's mother has been located. The girl is safe and well. There were no arrests."
