People have been urged to "think twice" before opening their door to people – and ask for ID for any workmen who knock on the door.

And elderly people should be "extra cautious" and call 101, or 999 in an emergency, if they notice anything suspicious.

It comes after five vulnerable people in Dudley and Wolverhampton were targeted during raids, which left a victim having a suspected heart attack.

An 89-year-old was also threatened with a brick during the incidents on Saturday, which follows similar crimes in Walsall the previous week.

West Midlands Police has issued the advice to people in a bid to crack down on the raids.

A spokesman for the force said: "If you’re in any doubt don’t let them in."

An investigation into the burglaries is currently ongoing, with no arrests having been made.

But police believe three men, said to be white and in their 30s to 40s, are believed to be responsible.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police via the force website or by calling 101.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
