Sergeant Jason Beaumont, who works for West Midlands Police, was first on the scene at a shop burglary at the Cornbow Centre, in Halesowen, in March 2018.

He used his patrol vehicle to block-in their get away car – before chasing the three men back into the building and confronting them on a flight of stairs.

Undeterred by their numerical advantage, brave Sergeant Beaumont contained and arrested the trio.

More police officers and arrested two other suspects from inside the premises.

While a safe containing cash was recovered near to an exit door.

After being caught red-handed, the five men involved, all aged between 22 and 28 years old, admitted burglary and were collectively jailed for more than two years.

Sergeant Beaumont was awarded a West Midlands Police Chief Constable's Commendation at a ceremony at Tally Ho earlier this month.

Superintendent Jenny Skyrme, from Force Response, said: "Sergeant Beaumont acted with both professionalism and courage to detain suspects on his own before colleagues arrived.

"He quite rightly deserves to be recognised for his actions."
