Smethwick shooting victim, 21, in a stable condition

A man gunned down in broad daylight in Smethwick remains in a stable condition in hospital, police have confirmed.

The 21-year-old man was shot in Barrett Street shortly before 4.45pm on Wednesday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the man was found with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital

A West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed he remains in hospital in a stable condition.

No arrests have been made yet and West Midlands Police are continuing their investigation.

A spokesman for the force previously said: "We have launched an investigation after a man aged 21 was shot in Smethwick this afternoon.

"Police were called by paramedics to Barrett Street just before 4.45pm. The victim was found with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening and taken to hospital.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call officers on 101, quoting incident reference number 1884 of September 18."
