Lawrence Parchment-Walker, who was of previous good character, also pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court to driving the car dangerously and without insurance in Barker Street, Oldbury, where the incident happened on August 11.

An earlier hearing before Walsall Magistrates heard that the officers were just leaving their base when they saw the white BMW go past appearing to be speeding.

They checked the car and discovered it was insured to a woman so when Parchment-Walker stopped and started to walk away from the vehicle he was intercepted and asked to produce his driving licence.

The defendant said it was in the car but once inside the BMW he tried to drive away as the officers attempted to prevent him leaving the scene, it was said.

One of them was knocked down and dragged five metres before letting go while the other was pulled 25 metres before he gave up, the magistrates were told.

Judge Rhona Campbell, sitting at Wolverhampton Crown Court, gave Parchment-Walker, from St Pauls Road, Smethwick, an interim driving disqualification before remanding him on bail for a pre-sentence report.

He is due to return at the court on October 2 for sentence when the case will be outlined in full.
