Shots are said to have been fired between two Fiestas travelling on Deans Road, in broad daylight just after 5pm on Friday.

Minutes later there was a confrontation a few hundred yards away on Willenhall Road, near the Shell garage at the junction with Neachells Lane.

An eye witness said he saw passengers in two cars travelling in opposite directions shooting at each other before one of the cars got caught up in traffic.

An occupant is said to have been stabbed while the rest fled the scene. The injured man also staggered away, abandoning the car which had a shattered window.

Police have launched an inquiry into the incident and two men have been arrested.

The scene unfolded as commuters were making their way home from work in early evening rush-hour.

One motorist caught up in the drama, posted on social media: "It's not every day you see eight men speed past you on Neachells Lane on opposite sides of the road shooting at each other in two Fiestas.

Investigating

"I had to duck, the glass landed all over the car. Then they got caught in traffic outside the garage, one guy got stabbed in the chest, the rest ran off, while the other car of lads carried on shooting. Imagine if one of those bullets had hit one of the people in my car."

West Midlands Police spokesman Craig Hughes said: "Police are investigating reports of disorder where a man was stabbed and gunshots were reported to have been fired in Wolverhampton yesterday.

"Officers received reports of shots between two cars in Deans Road, Deansfield, just after 5pm.

"There is then believed to have been disorder at the junction of Neachells Lane and Willenhall Road soon after where a car was found abandoned with a damaged window. The cause is unclear at this stage.

"A short time later a man presented himself at hospital with stab wounds to the leg. Following inquiries the 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

An 18-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of wounding and is currently in police custody for questioning."
