CCTV appeal after pensioner targeted by cashpoint distraction thieves

Police have released a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to after a thief tried to steal cash from a pensioner in Rowley Regis.

The would-be thief tried to distract the woman, who is in her 80s, as she used the cash machine in High Street at around 10.20am on May 20.

Officers said an attempt was made to pull the pensioner away from the cash – but she managed to push off her attacker who fled empty-handed.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "We want to speak to this woman after an attempt was made to steal money from a pensioner at a Rowley Regis cash point.

"A would-be robber tried to distract a woman in her 80s as she used the machine in High Street at around 10.20am on May 20.

"An attempt was made to pull the pensioner away from the cash point but she managed to push off her attacker who left empty-handed.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police."
