Balaclava men caught with cash and cannabis after Smethwick police chase

Three men have been arrested after they dumped a wad of cash as they tried to flee police in Smethwick.

The three men, who were wearing balaclavas, had been reported to be acting suspiciously near a cash point in Cape Hill on Saturday afternoon.

The suspects fled in a Honda car but officers soon tracked them down to Beech Way, where two card machines, cash and cannabis were found inside the car.

The men – aged 36, 37 and 39 – were arrested following a chase on foot and remained in police custody on Sunday afternoon.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police were called to reports of men in balaclavas acting suspiciously near a cash point in Cape Hill, Smethwick, just after 2.30pm yesterday.

"As officers arrived they were alerted to a car fleeing the area.

"Officers located the Honda to Beech Way, Smethwick, and three men were detained following foot pursuits.

"A search of the car recovered two card machines, cash and a small quantity of cannabis.

"Three men, aged 36, 37 and 39 were arrested on suspicion of going equipped and possession of cannabis.

"They remain in custody for questioning."
