The crooks broke into the Mary Stevens Hospice charity shop in Market Street, Kingswinford, at some point overnight between July 11 and 12.

A glass door was smashed in the process and a charity box was stolen from inside.

Mary Stevens Hospice, posting on their social media pages, thanked everyone for their support – including a company who had repaired the glass door for them free of charge.

Posting on their Facebook page on Friday, the hospice said: "As some of you may have seen, we were broken into last night [Thursday] at our Kingswinford store. Unfortunately, this caused significant damage to our front door as well as items lost.

"We are incredibly grateful for the kind comments and support we have received. We have had offers of donations, money and help. One local gentleman has set up a JustGiving page to help and Grandpa's Sweet Shop in Wall Heath, who were also sadly broken into last night.

"Bad things sometimes happen but the love and well wishes received shows us what a kind world we live in and we will always be thankful to you our wonderful supporters."

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police were alerted at 7.30am on Friday by staff at the Mary Stevens Hospice charity shop in Market Street, Kingswinford, reporting a break-in overnight at the shop.

"A glass door pane was smashed and a charity box taken.

"Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area overnight, or has any information about who may be responsible, please contact West Midlands Police."

Anyone with information can call officers on 101, quoting incident reference number 450 of July 12.
