The speed checks were carried out on the motorway today by Staffordshire Police officers.

The operation took place while it was raining.

But the slippery conditions did not deter some motorists who flouted the speed limit.

The operation, which used speed guns from a high vantage point, caught almost one motorist speeding every minute.

Officers reported the drivers for speeding for further legal action to be taken.

Central Motorway Police Group tweeted: "We have conducted speed checks on the M6 Toll, in @StaffsPolice area ...despite the rain, in just 30 mins... 24 drivers recorded speeds at over 90mph some at nearly 100mph, driver's reported for the offence."
