A masked gang posing as undercover policemen robbed an elderly cancer patient in her Wolverhampton home.

One of the men marched into the woman’s house in Bushbury as she watched TV with her husband telling them he was from CID.

He forced the couple, aged in their 80s, to stay in the lounge as four other men ‘carried out checks’.

However they were in fact ransacking the house stealing a gold ring, £200 in cash and the car keys.

The woman, who is recovering from a cancer operation, managed to get into the hallway and scream as the gang forced their way past her taking the house keys and locking her in as they left.

The couple’s son today described the raiders as scumbags.

He said: “Initially, they had heard a noise at the back gate and my dad had gone out the front door to look at the gate.

“Little did he know when he opened the front door and went round the side to have a look, four masked men had gone into the house.

"They went in and up the stairs and my dad shut the front door.

"He sat back down and this fella walked through and unbeknownst to my mom and dad he had smashed the patio door in.

"He marched straight through into the lounge and then he would not let my parents leave the lounge.

“My mom asked who was upstairs and he said it was more undercover policemen just checking the place.

"Instead, they were looking for cash. They got away with £200 and my dad’s gold sovereign ring.”

He added: “They’re scumbags – that’s the only word for it."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Officers have visited the woman’s home to offer support and advice.

“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting 20WV/5658A/19.”

It happened on on January 7 between 8pm and 8.25pm.
