'We robbed you': Thieves leave message after ransacking charity shop for the blind
The yobs stole donated money and goods, broke furniture and threw glass over bridal dresses.
Thieves broke their way in and ransacked a sight loss charity shop, stealing donations before leaving a 'we robbed you' message on the wall.
The Beacon Centre for the Blind shop in Bloxwich was targeted and vandalised in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The raiders took a safe that contained money and electrical goods, including a TV and a stereo, and threw broken glass over the bridal dresses that the shop specialises in.
They also broke into staff lockers, broke furniture, ripped out and stole lino and stole tea and coffee from the staff room.
The yobs caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
Shocked and disgusted
Robert Evans, area retail manager for Beacon, said: “When I got the call telling me the Walsall shop had been broken into I was shocked.
"I was of course concerned about what had been taken, but when I learned about the extent of the robbery and the vandalism I was disgusted.
“As a charity we rely on the generosity of the public to help us support the many people living with sight loss across the Black Country and Staffordshire.
"It is upsetting to think a handful of people can steal from a charity – I can only describe the thieves as heartless.”
The charity has since thanked the public for its continued support and kind messages.
In addition, Beacon has apologised for the temporary closure of the shop which is now back open as normal.
Mr Evans added: “We have received many kind messages and welcome any donations which should be delivered to our Walsall shop at 220 High Street, Bloxwich.
"In addition, the easiest and safest way to donate money to the Beacon is via our website or over the phone."
Beacon is a well-established West Midlands charity which started as the Wolverhampton Society for the Blind in 1875 and now has its main centre in Wolverhampton Road East, Sedgley.
The charity works to support people living with sight loss and helps raise awareness of the importance of eye health.
