Sandwell Council planners have given the green light for 'reserved matters' of access, scale, layout and appearance of the four large units that will be built at Vaughan Trading Estate, off Sedgley Road East.

The authority granted permission for the major scheme back in October 2016 and, in the original application, developers Dudley Unit Trust said the project would result in more than 800 jobs being created on site.

They added that hundreds more would be created in the form of temporary construction jobs as the units were built and more in benefits in the supply chain.

The development will see existing buildings on the plot demolished and replaced with four units built within two larger ones with approval for a variety of uses including business, general industry, storage and distribution.

A total of 132 parking spaces will also be created to support the new buildings.

In their design and access statement, agents Nexus Planning said: “The proposal is for a mixed use scheme of four units set within two buildings with associated yards and car parking.

“However, it retains the flexibility of allowing different subdivisions of the units and yard/parking areas in the future, depending on final end user requirements.

“The appearance will be of the highest standards in today’s market that satisfies the end user specification requirements.

“The materials to be used are expected to be agreed by condition, but will reflect the high quality requirements for the end user.

“Accordingly, the proposed scheme is considered acceptable in design and access terms and will provide a high quality designed industrial development offering a modern unit for the end user which will enhance the local economy and job prospects within the region.”
