Stories were brought to life in front of the eyes of pupils from Christ Church CofE Primary School thanks to a storytelling event run by David Wilson Homes Mercia.

Students were treated to a day of magical storytelling at the school to mark National Storytelling Week, which was organised by the home-builder at its nearby Hallam Park development on Limburg Avenue.

David Wilson Homes invited professional storyteller Tom the Tale Teller to run the session at the school, telling stories to the pupils and engaging them in literature.

Julie Pilmore, headteacher at Christ Church CofE Primary School, said: "We were delighted when David Wilson Homes asked if we wanted to take part in a storytelling session at the school.

"It was a fun day for all the pupils involved and it was great to see them so engaged in Tom’s stories."

The awareness week ran from February 1 to February 8 with the aim to unite both children and adults in the pastime of storytelling.

The children learned how oral storytelling has allowed stories to survive and evolve over thousands of years and across continents.

Georgina Hall, manager at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: "It was a pleasure to have organised the storytelling event at Hallam Park for the awareness week and it was great to see how Tom’s stories captured the imaginations of the children.

"Events such as these give David Wilson Homes the opportunity to make a difference in the communities in which they build and encourage the awareness week that promotes skills such as reading, writing, listening and creativity."
