Bosses hope the new service, supplying dishes from menus at its attractions, will help finances as venues remain closed amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Sales go towards supporting Birmingham Museums while the doors to its nine museum sites are temporarily closed.

Bosses say that for every week the charity's venues are closed it is losing £100,000 income.

Birmingham Museums, which runs the city centre museum and art gallery, and other venues such as ThinkTank, Sarehole Mill and Aston Hall, launched the service this week.

Recipe boxes will be delivered to customers at home inspired by popular dishes from the Edwardian Tearooms, based at Birmingham Museum, and the Sarehole Mill Bakehouse.

They will include a series of recipe boxes which contains all the ingredients to cook the meals at home.

The options are the Sarehole Bakehouse Pizza Box and two Edwardian Tearooms brunch boxes for eggs benedict and smoked salmon and eggs.

Birmingham Museums commercial director, Alex Nicholson-Evans, said: “We really miss being able to serve delicious meals to our visitors across our sites, so we are thrilled to be launching this new delivery service for the people of Birmingham."

She added: “Sales in our restaurants and shops are one of the main ways we are able to fund the work we do as a charity, and while our doors are closed, we are no longer able to generate this income.

"By ordering a recipe box you’ll be able to enjoy a tasty meal at home, whilst also supporting Birmingham Museums during this challenging time.”

Deliveries will be made on Friday, Saturday and Sunday within a 15-mile radius of Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum.
