Woodland trust celebrates award
A woodland trust has been recognised for it's voluntary service with an award.
The Kingswood Trust was presented with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire Ian Dudson.
The award, which is crafted out of crystals, was presented to Rachel Wells, Charity Manager and Len Scrivens who is an ex pupil and long standing supporter.
Rachel, said: “I am delighted that so many volunteers and supporters came to celebrate the huge honour paid to The Kingswood Trust today.
“Our volunteers are dedicated people who go above and beyond expectations to promote our charitable aims and support all our educational and environmental activities.
"The Kingswood Trust has been serving the community for over ninety years and this award will live in all our memories and exists as a red letter day in the history of the Trust.”
The Kingswood Trust delivers outdoor environmental opportunities for children, families, educators and the wider community.
It offers residential stays, day visits and programmes that support learning, personal development, health and wellbeing, helping some of the most disadvantaged people in the country.
Together, volunteers from as young as 15 up to 80 years of age, donated over 6100 hours of work equal to approximately £73,000 over the last 12 months.
Volunteers come from all backgrounds and many people attend our regular Friends volunteer days and craft mornings held throughout the year.
Local organisations such as Wolverhampton Homes, United Living, Hindley Contractors Ltd, ReAssure Telford and Roofstyle Ltd support through corporate volunteering programmes, Rotarians, the Reparation Service and uniformed organisations as well as the local colleges and universities provide The Trust with volunteer support.
In addition, The Kingswood Trust supports groups of young people aged 15-25 with special educational needs and disabilities through fully funded volunteering projects.
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by volunteer groups to benefit their local communities.
David Harris, Chair of The Kingswood Trust said, “We all feel honoured that the work of The Kingswood Trust has been recognised by Her Majesty the Queen in this way.
"I hope that their continued support will enable our services to support more people.
“We are so grateful for the tremendous work from all those who regularly commit to giving time and resources to our nine acre community facility.”
