Record crowds turn up for Stone Food and Drink Festival - with pictures

Tastes from around the world were sampled by thousands of people at a Staffordshire food festival.

There was dishes from Mexico, Thailand and India at the Stone Food and Drink Festival over the weekend.

Organisers estimate up to 20,000 people attended on Saturday and Sunday, which could turn out to be a record in the 15 years since the festival has been held.

Richard Stevens, chairman of the festival, said: "The festival has gone really well.

"This year we have got more people than ever before.

"We have got 100 different stalls offering food. We have got Thai, Indian, Mexican and Polish dishes.

"There is over 14 different breweries here and 80 different retail stalls selling products related to food.

"These include jams, cheeses, chutneys and pots and pans."

The festival is organised by a group of volunteers which has four directors.

Each year, it attracts thousands of people and this year is set to be a record attendance.

Richard continued: "This is the most popular event that we have in Stone.

"People from around the county attend and this year we expect to have around 15,000 to 20,000 people."

Alongside the rows of food and ale stalls, there was live music to keep guests entertained.

And people could try their hand at making some on the dishes in make-shift culinary master-classes.

A description of the festival on the event's website said: "A celebration of all things food and drink – discover the finest artisan produce; learn with live cookery demos, talks, tastings & masterclasses; enjoy street food, family fun, live music, licensed bars – and more."
