Track Talk: These play-offs could go right down to wire!

Play-off action never disappoints – and I can’t wait for Wolverhampton’s semi-final with Swindon starting on Monday.

These two sides are evenly matched and I honestly believe it could take all 30 races to decide it.

When you look at the class of riders in the meetings, it’s something to look forward to. I always enjoy seeing Jason Doyle, the 2017 World Champion, battling with the Monmore specialists and with the first leg there on Monday it should be some night.

I can’t even say what margin Wolves will need to get the better of the Robins. The reason for this is because, like 2017, even if Swindon won away, Wolves could also win away. That’s how close and unpredictable it could be. But, naturally, any kind of lead on Monday would be very handy for Peter Adams’ men and I expect a classic contest.

It’s good to see Kyle Howarth back racing after all his injury problems because Wolves must have feared his season was over, but he’s a major boost. And with Nick Morris and Luke Becker starting to hit the big scores, they could have a massive part to play.

Parrys International Wolves star Jacob Thorssell will have a big role to play – and he doesn’t fear Swindon. He said: “We’ve got the form, we’ve been battling to get the results and now it’s time to take things up another level. We know we can beat anybody in this league home or away and over two legs we are even more confident. Of course we’ve still got a couple of big jobs to do but we’re not scared of anybody.”

Jack Smith is hoping his Cradley side can ‘hit Leicester hard’ in the first leg of their play-off semi-final after sneaking into the top four.

It comes after Mildenhall were dramatically denied all four league points despite winning at Plymouth last weel, as the hosts rescued three last gasp heat advantages to hand the Heathens a place in the play-offs right at the death.

They will now take on regular league leaders Leicester in the semi-finals with the home leg taking place at Birmingham’s Perry Barr Stadium this Wednesday, October 2 (7.30) due to a lack of available dates at Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green - with the return leg at Leicester on Saturday October 5 with a 5.30 start as the first part of a double header with Stoke in a cup tie.

Smith said: “I had a good night guesting for Mildenhall around Leicester but I didn’t have the best one for Cradley in the league, it’s not one of my favourite tracks – I don’t think it is many people’s. They’ve got a good home track advantage but so do we – let’s get a big lead at home and then try to keep on to that when we go away.”
