Track Talk: Wolverhampton Wolves must bounce back at Monmore

Wolverhampton’s last-gasp defeat at Swindon on Thursday has heaped pressure on the team for Monday’s big meeting with Peterborough at Monmore.

Parrys International Wolves were ahead for the majority of the clash with the Robins down at the Abbey Stadium but allowed the home side to edge back into it.

And in heat 15 Jason Doyle produced heroics for the Robins to pull a 46-44 win out of the bag and break Wolves’ hearts in the process.

We will only know how costly the two league points let slip by Wolves will prove to be when we study the final standings ahead of the play-offs.

Monday night sees the clash of two national champions – Sweden’s Jacob Thorssell for Wolverhampton and newly-crowned British champ Charles Wright with the Panthers.

It’s a meeting I’m looking forward to because Peterborough have been boosted by the return of Hans Andersen who is always good value around Monmore – remember his run-off with Ipswich against Mikael Max all those years ago? Great stuff.

Panthers have found it a struggle on their return to the Premiership but Peter Adams won’t allow his riders to underestimate them.

He has to lift his side from the disappointment of Thursday, in fact he was so incensed himself that he snubbed requests for media interviews with both newspaper and radio lined up.

Now it’s time for Wolves to bite back and I would expect them to do so – but Peterborough may have a surprise or two in store along the way.

It’s a rare visit for me to Monmore these days and I’m looking forward to a good night – hope to see lots of you there with the kids, who go free during the school holidays.

Like Wolverhampton, I’d rate Cradley’s chances of making the play-offs as slightly less than 50/50.

The Anchor Logistics Heathens have dropped points at home and need to pick up some away wins.

They head to Leicester a week tonight for the second part of a double header which also features Glasgow in the Championship.

And then the boys are back in action at Monmore on Monday week when Plymouth are the visitors.

Once again it’s kids go free for that one and there will also be a signing session with the riders at 6.45pm on entry to the stadium.

It’s been a tough season for the club but we still have an opportunity to make something of it.

And we’ve been getting questions about whether the Golden Hammer will be staged this season. At this stage we cannot say whether it will, but I’m aware of how much the fans would like to see it staged. If we don’t make the play-offs then the Hammer could be our season farewell event.
