Track Talk: Leon Madsen looks a new great Dane

Denmark has a rich history of world champions – you know, the likes of Wolves and Coventry legend Ole Olsen and Cradley icons Erik Gundersen and Jan O Pedersen.

And I’m getting more and more impressed with the new Dane on the Grand Prix block – Leon Madsen.

The former Poole rider has come into the series full-time as reigning European Champion and is joint leader of the series with Poland’s Patryk Dudek.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Madsen – but I should have done. He’s been topping the scorecharts in the Polish League and is consistently one of the fastest riders in the world.

But I also have a feeling Wolves hero Freddie Lindgren will have a say in tonight’s meeting, as will 2017 World Champion Jason Doyle who will be on his home track in the Swedish League.

I’ll go for Madsen, Doyle, Lindgren as my 1-2-3.

speaking of Doyle, he’s in a bit of form right now – and he’s at Monmore on Monday when he leads Swindon into action.

It’s another tough test for Parrys International Wolves who know they cannot afford another home defeat - more to the point they need wins on the road.

Every home meeting now carries pressure on the side as they cling on to faint play-off hopes - they must beat Swindon.

It would be a good time for winter signing Nick Morris to find his best form against the club he left to join Wolves.

I thought Nick could be the key signing to give Wolves a solid team but his pre-season injury had a major impact.

Jacob Thorssell also needs to get back to his best – if they can get going then they may yet have a chance of making the top four.
