The teams will do battle at Perry Barr on Wednesday, April 3, and Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten paid tribute to Mason, who will focus on his role of Brummies’ co-owner going forward.

“It’s going to be a fantastic way to start the season for both sets of supporters and a great occasion for David as well,” said Van Straaten. “David has been one of the mainstays of lower level racing for the past 20 years or so and we were delighted to agree to be a part of his special night.”

Mason added: “Renewing the rivalry with Wolverhampton in a one-off meeting will really whet both sets of supporters’ appetites for an exciting year ahead.”
