The 28-year-old will not be racing for the Monmore outfit next year as he chases down a fourth world title and aims to defend his crown successfully for the first time.

But speaking at a meet-and-greet at Wolverhampton pub The Cleveland Arms this week, he confirmed it was not the end of his Wolves career.

“I started my career in Wolverhampton and I’ll finish my career in Wolverhampton,” he told the Express & Star. “It’s got a place in my heart.

“I’ll be back at Wolves when the time is right. I haven’t completely ruled out riding in England.

“It’s just where I’m at right now in what I’m doing, I’m making decisions best suited to how I’m going to be physically and mentally.

“Loads of fans would want to see my ride with Wolves but yet loads of fans would want to see me being successful and winning world titles.

“At the moment, doing both of them at the same time would be tough. But I will be back at Wolves.”

Woffinden met more than 200 fans at the Wolverhampton pub this week, and the speedway star was pleased to see some familiar faces.

“It’s always good coming back here,” he smiled. “It’s a pleasure to come and do things like this, it’s not a burden. I enjoy it. Seeing all the familiar faces, like the girls who are helping me out who are at Wolves week in week out, it’s always good to catch up with them.

“Then you’ve got people who travel as well. I saw a tweet of two girls making a 300-mile journey. That’s madness, they set off at 8am.

“It blows my mind when I see stuff like that. I’m just a kid riding his dirt bike, I can’t get my head around it.”
