The 24-year-old is one of five riders retained from the side who suffered Grand Final defeat at the hands of Swindon in 2017. But after winning the top-flight title in 2016, his first season with the club, Howarth is determined to recapture that glory.

“I think it’s good that I’ve got a stable set-up,” said Howarth, whose side open with a Knockout Cup double header against Belle Vue on Monday. “I’ve been at Wolves for two years, so it’s nice to be back.

“I know what they’re about, I know the people and we’ve had two solid years together so we’re hoping to continue that.

“I’m happy to be back at Wolves. It’s a new season with a younger team but a lot of the same faces. It’s looking good, we’re looking strong and we want to have another good year.

“It was a bit sore for us last year, the way we lost the final, but that’s speedway, that’s part and parcel of it and now we want to get that title back.

“We move on to a new season, but we won’t forget how the end of last season felt when we’re trying to finish top and ultimately win the league.”
