Having previously seen a number of practice sessions postponed due to the recent snow, the riders finally got back on their bikes last night as they ramped up their preparations for the new Elite League season.

Among the riders taking part were new number one Jacob Thorssell, captain Rory Schlein and Wolverhampton-born Ashley Morris who is a new recruit for the upcoming campaign.

And after narrowly missing out on the Premiership title to Swindon last year, skipper Schlein believes Wolverhampton will be competitive once again.

“It’s the start of the season, there are a few nerves but it’s just exciting to be back,” he said. “All the snow we have had has not been ideal. But we are all professional.

“We have all stayed fit through the off-season and once the season has started it won’t take long before we are all up to speed. There is a real feel-good factor in this team. Everyone knows what each other is capable of and everyone believes in one another which is great.

“We have got a job in front of us now – to win this league. For me personally, to do that as captain, would be really special. We may not be one of the favourites but we are going to be very difficult to race against. When we go on the road, the home teams will know they have tough competition. And we made Monmore a fortress last season and we’ll doing the same this year.”
