Stour set sights on next season
Chairman Robin Edwards has revealed Stourbridge already have plans in place for next season as they look to bounce back from an underwhelming 2018/19 campaign.
Saturday’s 22-17 defeat at Leicester Lions brought the curtain down on a largely frustrating nine months for the Stourton Park outfit.
Stour began the season with hopes of promotion from National Two North but never looked like challenging and instead finished in 11th place.
Director of rugby Neil Mitchell, who will return for a 16th year at the helm, has already been working on putting things right for when September rolls around.
Edwards said: “We’ve already had a lot of discussions with existing players about the future.
“This is the time of the season when everyone wants a clear idea of where they are heading.
“We’re hopeful of making a couple of additions in the near future which will strengthen us.
“It has been a bit of a hit and miss season, if we are being honest.
“We never quite gelled at the start and a couple of key signings, who we expected big things from, never really delivered.
“All of those things have been taken into account when planning for next season. There is a real determination to do better.”
Strong at home, winning 11 of their 15 matches, Stour had a miserable time on their travels. Saturday’s defeat was their 13th in 15 away days.
Edwards continued: “That is one area which really disappointed and where we can certainly improve. The margins between victory and defeat in this division are very small. It gets more competitive each year.”
