Stourbridge pay price for slow start

Stuttering Stourbridge slumped to a third straight defeat after a late fightback fell short against Chester.

The Stourton Park outfit were ultimately left to rue another slow start as they went down 33-27 at home to fall to eighth in National Two North.

Director of rugby Neil Mitchell had demanded a response after a dire display in the previous weekend’s 32-3 loss at Hinckley.

But the message initially appeared to have gone unheard as rampant Chester claimed a bonus point inside the opening 30 minutes.

The visitors stormed into a 33-0 lead before George Morgan finally got the hosts on the board just past the half-hour mark.

By half-time, Stour had scored twice more, Jack Samuel and Chris Murphy both going over to reduce the deficit to 16 points.

Dan Rundle promptly brought it down further when he scored 11 minutes into the second half but despite having momentum, from there Stour were only able to add a Scott penalty as the visitors held on.

Stour now visit leaders Caldy this Saturday.
