Johal’s classy ton eases Stourbridge across the line

Jujhar Johal played a starring role for Stourbridge as they moved to within striking distance of Worcestershire County League leaders.

The talented teenager stroked his way to a superb unbeaten century to help his side to an impressive seven-wicket success against table-topping Redditch.

Having won the toss and opted to bowl first in a clash reduced to 42 overs, Stourbridge restricted their hosts to 201-8 with Johal, Dan Wale, Jitesh Jivan-Patel and Dominic O’Reilly all claiming two wickets.

Johal then took centre stage with the bat, hitting 14 fours on his way to 119 not out as Stour eased to victory in the 40th over.

The win left them fifth, 12 points behind the leaders going into Saturday’s home clash with Evesham.

Old Hill are a place below after edging a thriller with Worcester at Haden Hill.

Rain forced the clash to be reduced to 26 overs per side with Worcester posting 152-5.

Old Hill then slumped to 19-4 and 56-5 in reply before skipper Jonathan Wright and Naqaash Tahir launched a rescue act.

Wright finally fell for 52 while Tahir was the ninth man out with the score on 152 after hitting 41 from 28 balls.

Final pair Jehangir Baig and Suhayl Iqbal then edged the hosts home off the final ball of the game. Old Hill travel to Pershore at the weekend.

Stourport beat Feckenham by seven wickets after Ryan Derrick (5-21) and Greg Massingham (4-21) had combined to blow the visitors away for 119.
