Hosts Hornets held on to win 21-17 and claim their first success of the season in a game that produced six tries and five yellow cards.

A strong first-half showing saw Hornets lead 21-5 with Stafford’s try coming from Dave Wareham.

Stafford rallied in the second half with Stephen Frost and Gareth Ley scoring tries, one of which was converted by Lewis Cantrill, but Telford held on for the win.

Walsall also tasted defeat, going down 15-6 at home to Newcastle.

The visitors scored all their points in the opening period while Walsall were guilty of squandering several chances and had just two Roger Weston penalties to show for their efforts.
