Stafford bowed out of the Midlands Intermediate Cup with a 39-7 home defeat at the hands of Kenilworth.

The visitors arrived boasting a record of six wins in seven games which sees them sitting second in Midlands Two West (South).

And it did not take long for them to grasp the initiative, scoring the opening try with their first attack of the game.

Stafford, to their credit, fought back hard with some big hits but were unable to take advantage of any territory gained.

An injury to Josh Arnold then forced a reshuffle and Kenilworth ran in three further tries to lead 22-0 at the break.

The hosts suffered further setback when Joe Tait was forced out at the break.

Kenilworth quickly added another try but then saw two player yellow carded following an incident which also saw the home side have a man sent to the sin-bin.

Stafford took advantage of their numerical advantage to score a consolation try through Ben Chatfield, though Kenilworth scored two more themselves before the final whistle.

This Saturday sees Stafford return to league action when they host Crewe and Nantwich.
