This first round tie was the third meeting of the two sides this season, with the Badgers pulling away in the second half.

Joe Hartshorne, Adam Wood and Ben Douglass struck for the hosts – after Jack Edwards’ early opener was cancelled out by Wednesfield’s Leon Taylor.

Brocton, who play in the Midland League Division One, started brightly and went ahead in the seventh minute.

Edwards found space in the box, after Paul McMahon and Alex Curtis linked well, to slot the ball home.

The visitors were not deterred though and soon responded as Taylor, who left the Badgers a few weeks ago, lobbed the onrushing Adam Jenkins.

Following the break, the Badgers had the heavy wind in their favour and they made it count as Hartshorne put them back in front with a cool side-footed finish.

The hosts were then firmly camped in Wednesfield’s half and Wood headed home from close range to make it 3-1.

Douglas, who has recently been promoted from their under-21s side, flew down the wing and squeezed the ball in under pressure late on, to send the West Midlands Premier side out of the Vase.

Stafford Town are also out of the competition, following a 1-0 defeat to Kimberley Miners Welfare.

Stourport Swifts are still going after they beat Shirebrook Town 3-2.

Walsall Wood remain in the competition too as they won 1-0 against Atherstone Town – Tony Clarke scoring late on.

AFC Wulfrunians go to Leicester Nirvana for a replay tonight after drawing 1-1 on Saturday.

Wolverhampton Sporting host Staveley Miners Welfare after their originally scheduled clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
