Wolverhampton netball dish out awards

The Wolverhampton City Netball League put the seal on a successful winter league campaign with its annual presentation night.

The Pavilion, Wolverhampton was the venue with guest of honour, International Netball Federation board director Janet Wrighton MBE, presenting the winning teams and individuals with the awards.

League chair Anona Hickin said: "It was a fantastic evening. We had 199 people there and it was great to see so many people who were not picking awards up come along to support the league."

The league boast 43 winer teams while 44 are currently battling it out in the summer league.

Division 1: Sapphets, runners-up Phoenix. Division 2: Phoenix Hornets, runners-up Lucas.

Division 3: Eurostars, runners-up Wordsley Storks. Division 4: Stourbridge Jets Black, runners-up Flames. Division 5: Stourbridge Jets Blue, runners-up Diamonds.

Handicap Tournament: Stourbridge Jets Blue. Plate Knockout: Stourbridge Jets Blue. Best League Goal Average: Stourbridge Jets Blue.

Julio Knockout: Stourbridge Jets Black. Non Winners Knockout: Whitmore X.

Players' player – Division 1: Carla McCurdy (Sam 2); Division 2: Audrey Williams (Lucas); Division 3: Lucy Dunstan (Eurostars) and Rachel Whitehouse (Cresta).

Division 4: Sarah Breakspear (Stourbridge Jets Black); Division 5: Rachel Henden (Diamonds) and Heather Loynes (Zimmers).

Under-16 award: Kiera Bonehill (Libra Lea Navy), Emily Smith (Ice), Beth Turnbull (Whitmore B) and Amy Wyatt (Sam 5).

Sportsgirl: Amy Spencer (Allsortz). Sportswoman: Debbie Henden (Diamonds). Sportsteam: Wordsley Storks.

The Downes Award: Diamonds. The Ivy Ball Mo Griffiths Long Playing Award: Deb Pickford (Whitmore), Kelly Thompson (Libra Lea) and Sharon Thompson (Sam).
