Leander Dendoncker: Wolves' attack can hurt anyone

Utility man Leander Dendoncker has hailed Wolves’ attack for their ability to ‘harm every team’ – as Nuno Espirito Santo bids to bolster his frontline further.

Star striker Raul Jimenez made it 20 goals for the season in all competitions with his header against Liverpool last Thursday.

And with Diogo Jota coming back from injury, speedster Adama Traore tearing defences apart and Pedro Neto turning heads, Wolves appear well-placed as they aim to complete deals for Portuguese forwards Daniel Podence and Nelson Oliveira in the final days of the transfer window.

“I think we can harm every team with the attack we have, and I think they are showing that every week,” said Dendoncker.

“I think that the whole team did really well (against Liverpool). We can be proud of this.”

Winger Podence was withdrawn from Greek club Olympiakos’ squad for their game against AEK Athens on Sunday ahead of a possible move to Molineux.

Centre forward Oliveira played for AEK, coming on as a first-half substitute in the 0-0 draw.

Reports in Greece over the weekend suggested talks for 24-year-old Podence had fallen through, but it is understood Wolves are still pressing ahead with both deals ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Olympiakos head of communications Nikos Gavalas said: “The difference was between the two clubs regarding the terms of Podence’s contract.

"The matter will clear up immediately. Olympiakos is known for tough negotiations."

The current Wolves crop, meanwhile, have just enjoyed a rare weekend off.

It was a welcome break, as well, considering they have already played 40 matches across all competitions this term.

Dendoncker admitted as much, as he said: “I think we could use it after all these games we have had. We have to recover well now.

“We have had a lot of games up until now, we can use these days and look forward to Manchester (United).”

Wolves return to action at Old Trafford on Saturday to take on United (5.30pm).

Both Nuno’s charges and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side go into the encounter on 34 points in the Premier League, and a win for Wolves would come as a big statement as they aim to seal European football once again.

“We are hoping to get a result,” added Dendoncker.

“It is what we try to do every game and we will try again.”
