Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo says it's obvious the squad needs new players – but he's hopeful of new additions.

With Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro having departed, Wolves are down to a squad of 14 recognised senior outfield players for their tour to Shanghai.

Matt Doherty is out for three weeks with a knee injury and Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss have been given time off after appearing for Mexico and Morocco in summer tournaments.

Nuno, speaking at a press conference in Shanghai, said: "At the moment we are working with 11 first team players. We have Raul and Romain out, it's obvious we have to bring (players in), but there are a lot of things in consideration.

"We're only going to bring players that will add quality to the squad we have.

"It requires time, sometimes things aren't possible. I'm hopeful we're going to bring players."

Wolves trained twice on Monday in 28C heat and high levels of humidity in Shanghai.

"It's tough," Nuno admitted. "Because of the high level of humidity and it becomes very harsh for the players, but we're trying to take care of that situation, not to make the sessions very long, give them some time to rest, because we are here to play, not necessarily to train. We're realising it's been tough for them.

"The benefits (of the trip) are the commercial side of the club, it's important we realise we're here to mix those situations.

"The opponents we're going to face, they're Premier League clubs and it's good for us to prepare."

Wolves finished seventh last season and many are tipping them to battle for a top six spot in 2019/20.

Nuno said there'll be no public talk of targets of any kind.

"We never fight for a position in the table, we fight for each game," he added.

"What happened last season, we can only repeat that if we work harder and dedicate more.

"We have to improve and I believe we can improve the quality of our game. We also have to add players to compete with the top six."
