Summer transfer window: Wolves linked XI

With the transfer window open once again, Wolves are regularly being linked with plenty of names.

Facing the large task of football on both the domestic and European front, Nuno's side are expected to add some players to increase the depth of the squad.

Here is a Wolves XI made up entirely of players linked with the club in Nuno's preferred 3-5-2 formation.

Goalkeeper:

Walter Benitez

Wolves were surprisingly linked with a move for Nice goalkeeper Walter Benitez early in the summer.

Nuno of course has two very able stoppers in his thinking when it comes to picking his squad, with Rui Patricio holding the number one shirt ahead of John Ruddy.

Will Norris is also involved from time to time, so it would be surprising to see the club invest in someone between the sticks this summer.

Defence:

CB - James Tarkowski

James Tarkowski (AMA/Sam Bagnall)

26-year-old Burnley centre back James Tarkowski is another name linked with Wolves this summer, although defence is certainly an area you could expect the club to strengthen.

The England international would certainly add to the quality at Molineux, although Burnley will probably be unwilling to broker any kind of move.

He wouldn't be expected to move cheaply regardless, so Fosun would have to dip their hands into their pockets to get this one sorted.

CB - Nicolas Otamendi

Nicolas Otamendi (AMA)

Another big name linked with Wolves, rumours have suggested that Otamendi could be set to leave the Etihad this summer.

Wolves were immediately amongst those in the running with the bookies, although it would certainly be a change from the norm considering the club's previous transfer dealings.

Should it happen it would be a huge move, although it's certainly one worth placing in the 'questionable' pile at the moment.

CB - Edson Alvarez

The third man in our linked XI defence is Edson Alvarez, who is currently on the books at CF America in Mexico.

Wolves already have one hugely successful Mexican native in their ranks, so links with a hot prospect from the same nation may come as less of a surprise.

Just 21 years of age, Alvarez is mainly a centre-back but can venture onto the right flank or central midfield. Reports suggest he has a release clause of just £8m.

Midfield:

RWB - Rafael Camacho

Rafael Camacho (AMA/Sam Bagnall)

Wolves had hoped to sign Liverpool starlet Rafael Camacho this summer, with a fee of around £10m thought to be around the asking price for his services at Anfield.

The young Portuguese prospect fit the bill in terms of Wolves' normal dealings - signing young players who could represent a profit in the future.

There are questions about his true position, with Liverpool playing him at right-back, but the player himself has said he would prefer a more forward-thinking role.

Wolves were pipped to his signature by Sporting CP in June though, so Nuno will need to look elsewhere for a new signing on the right flank.

CM - Morgan Sanson

Just 24-years-old and reportedly set to leave Ligue 1 side Marseille, a number of clubs have all been linked with Morgan Sanson.

The central midfielder would represent a statement of intent for Wolves should they sign someone of his quality - but he wouldn't be a cheap player to sign, that's for sure.

He made 37 appearances last season, scoring five times, but it's work elsewhere which he's known for - with his defensive qualities not to be understated.

CM - Aaron Mooy

Aaron Mooy (AMA/Sam Bagnall)

Likely to depart Huddersfield Town following their relegation to the Championship, don't be surprised to see Premier League interest in Aaron Mooy this summer.

The Aussie was a silver lining to the Terriers' dreadful season in the top flight, leading to several clubs being linked with the central midfielder.

Dynamic and proven in the Premier League, if he's available at a reduced rate due to Huddersfield's relegation he could prove a wise addition.

CM - Amadou Diawara

Best played in a defensive midfield role, Amadou Diawara is another young prospect on the continent who had been linked with a move to Molineux.

He only made 19 appearances for Napoli last season, but has since signed for Roma in Serie A.

LWB - Filipe Luis

Filipe Luis playing against Real Madrid.

Clubs have been alerted to the potential availability of former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis for a while now - given his contract situation at Atletico Madrid.

Seeing his contract expire this summer, plenty of sides have been credited with an interest in the Brazilian.

More of a conventional full-back, he wouldn't seem to meet the full mould of Wolves' preferred wing-back style, but could potentially adapt to that role.

Forwards:

ST - Salomon Rondon

Salomon Rondon

Crossing the West Brom and Wolves divide is not a path tread too often, but it's worked out very well before *cough* Steve Bull *cough*.

That would be the very same route for Salomon Rondon, via a season-long stop in Newcastle, should Wolves secure the Venezuelan's signing over the summer.

The Albion striker has a £16.5m release clause, but he could well depart for less with his contract up at Albion next summer - he's unlikely to stay at The Hawthorns too.

He's been heavily linked with a move to China recently however, so a trip to the far east could be more likely for the Albion man.

ST - Andre Silva

Seemingly perennially linked with a move to Molineux, Andre Silva's name almost always crops up when Wolves rumours are discussed.

The Portuguese striker spent last season on-loan at Sevilla and is back at AC Milan now and is expected to move on this summer should reports be believed.

The 23-year-old managed 11 goals this season alongside three assists.
