Wolves have great expectations says Matt Doherty

Tickets go on sale this Saturday to Wolves supporters who are expected to quickly snap up their 33,000 allocation.

Wolves will face Watford on April 7 looking to reach their first FA Cup final in 59 years. And Irish wing-back Doherty says the players believe they can lift the trophy.

“Yes, of course,” he said.

“Our record against the top-six teams is pretty good and we were at home at Molineux, so we actually expected to (beat Manchester United) and fortunately we did win the game. Now we have got a big semi-final to look forward to and we’ll expect to win that too.

“I know Manchester City are still in (the Cup) but we have managed to avoid them. “I know they’ll be favourites, but we have drawn with them this season.

“I know they beat us at the Etihad, but in the semi-final, it’s a 50-50, one-off, anything is possible and we have got a good team, so yes, we’re capable of doing it.”

Doherty is away on international duty with Ireland where he’s been reunited with his former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.

The 27-year-old had barely featured under previous boss Martin O’Neill but hopes to become a regular now.

When asked if he should have played more, Doherty said: “I would like to think so personally, but I don’t pick the team and it didn’t work out for whatever reason.

"Hopefully, that will be different. (I’ve) no idea why I didn’t play more. I just didn’t play. It’s not the end of the world. You’ve got to respect the 11 that go out.”

Tickets for the semi-final are priced from £30 to £120. Season ticket holders have Saturday, Sunday and Monday to purchase.

Meanwhile, Morgan Gibbs-White started as England Under-19s beat their Czech Republic counterparts 4-1.
