Wolves are in the quarter-finals of the historic competition for the first time in 16 years thanks to a 1-0 victory at Bristol City.

Ivan Cavaleiro's first-half strike won a tense affair at Ashton Gate – adding to victories over Liverpool and Shrewsbury, with a replay, in the third and fourth rounds.

"I know the work, well done, in the previous moments of the competition has allowed us a chance to become a better team," said Nuno.

"This is the view that I have. We don't change because of the competition. Doing so well, the way we've been working hard, allowed us a chance to become better. This is the idea."

Wolves are among a favourable last eight in the Cup. Manchester City are the one everyone hopes to avoid in the quarters, while one of Manchester United or holders Chelsea will exit the competition on Monday night.

And on taking the Cup seriously, Nuno said: "I believe we can win every match. We don't change for different competitions.

"You can see by the team, we are always looking for the best options – a strong XI, based on the small squad we have.

"There's no such thing as rotation for us, it's always looking for the right options for a strong XI.

"We achieved against Liverpool, Shrewsbury and now Bristol - all very tough.

"It's a competition we really appreciate, and we go for it, of course."

It was another potentially season-defining victory at Ashton Gate.

Wolves' previous visit saw them beat then Championship title rivals City 2-1, thanks to a last-gasp Ryan Bennett header.

Now Wolves await the result of Monday's draw, to see who they have to beat in order to reach Wembley.

"I'm very happy because we achieved something very important for us, in a very, very tough stadium," added Nuno.

"Ashton Gate is a tough stadium to come and get something.

"We fought and our fans are happy."
