Nuno Espirito Santo is glad to see Diogo Jota back on song for Wolves – and has called for consistency from him and the rest of the attackers.

Jota got his second goal in as many games, before playing a huge part in Matt Doherty’s last-gasp winner, at Newcastle.

The 22-year-old – last season’s top goalscorer, as Wolves stormed the Championship – initially struggled to adjust to the Premier League, but now seems to have found his feet.

“Goals always give you confidence and Diogo did well,” said Nuno.

“At the same time, others didn’t do so well.

“It’s like we’ve been talking about through these days. It’s up and down.

“What we want is consistency that allows us to keep growing and keep building.

“Football is like that though, up and down. It’s about how you manage situations.

“I’m happy for Diogo. I’m happy for Matt. But tomorrow it’ll be another one and before it was another player.

“What is important is the squad; the club; our fans. This is what is important.”

And on the dramatic Doherty header, Nuno said: “It’s one of the tasks.

“I think everybody knows how we play – the job, the heart, our wing players have to do.

“And in the 95th minute, running 70 yards as Matt did requires a lot of energy and belief.”

Meanwhile, Nuno took the time to speak on rumours linking Wolves with Japanese forward Shoya Nakajima.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form for Portuguese side Portiomense, whose chairman Rodiney Sampaio said Nakajima is ‘80 per cent in Wolverhampton’.

But Nuno says he does not know the player.

“It’s rumours. As long as we approach the transfer window, more rumours will come,” he added.

“More players will be connected, but I cannot speak about it. I don’t know the player, no, so it’s not (even) a rumour.”
