Wolves have behaved impeccably during Rui Patricio’s ongoing transfer saga with Sporting Lisbon, insists Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves are close to reaching a compensation deal with the Portuguese club where Patricio terminated his contract this summer.

The Portugal No.1 arrived at Molineux on a free transfer following a turbulent time in Portugal, where masked thugs attacked the club’s players at their training ground.

Sporting then accused Patricio, also a Euro 2016-winner, of breaching his contract and they complained to Fifa in the hopes of getting the £50million which they valued him at.

However, both clubs have now held positive talks and are edging closer to a compensation deal, which is likely to cost around £15million – the figure which Wolves had originally agreed to pay Sporting before talks broke down this summer.

But Nuno says Wolves have behaved ‘excellently’ during the lengthy transfer saga.

“I think all the things regarding the situation of Rui will become public,” he said.

“What I must say is that, as a club, I think Wolves have excellent behaviour in that situation.

“Anything else will be said by the club and all these things so I repeat regarding this situation, Rui Patricio and Wolves, the club have had excellent behaviour.”

Nuno praised Patricio’s focus for dealing with the situation.

The 30-year-old, who signed a four-year-deal at Wolves, has made four clean sheets this season in an impressive start to his Wolves career.

Nuno said: “He’s a very mature player, a lot of experience.

“Besides that, he’s a man, he knows how to handle things.

“He can separate things and you must separate things – when you train, when you compete and all the matters which surround you, you have to go away from that and I think he can do it.

“He’s doing his job and doing it well.”
