Kenny Miller: Wolves look the real deal

Wolves are looking like the ‘real deal’ in the Premier League, according to former striker Kenny Miller.

The 38-year-old is confident they will establish themselves in England’s top flight this season, following a stellar Championship campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo last year.

Miller, who made 167 appearances and scored 52 goals for Wolves between 2001 and 2006, said: “They have been up and down a few times since I played – but they look the real deal at the moment.

“I know they have had some heavy investment in the team over the last few years but it doesn’t always guarantee success.

“But they have obviously got a fantastic manager and a great group of boys who at the moment look like they are more than capable of establishing themselves in the Premier League.”

Wolves will go in search of their second win of the season on Sunday when they host Burnley at Molineux following the international break.

A total of 10 Wolves players have been called up to action over the past two weeks and among those were Ruben Neves and Matt Doherty, who have impressed Miller in Nuno’s set up.

Asked who his favourite players were of the current crop, he said: “Probably the obvious, Ruben Neves looks like an outstanding player and again, he was bought for a good chunk of money, but that never guarantees (success) and are they going to settle into the British game?

“But he very much hit the ground running last year, some of the goals he scored were absolutely outstanding, and again he has carried it again into this season.

“But there is so many good players in this team. I actually really like Doherty as well, at right-wing-back, and he is in my fantasy team as well so he needs to keep a clean sheet.

“I thought he had a fantastic season last year as well and, again, once you start investing in the teams, they don’t (usually) hold on to many players so it shows his value to the team.”

Wolves won the Championship title last year in a stand-out season for Wolves, in the first season under Nuno.

And after tasting success, Miller says Wolves will be looking to continue their winning mentality in the Premier League.

Miller, who now plays for Dundee, said: “They have got an exciting group of players, when you come off the back of a really successful season, you look to just maintain that going into the next season and they have done it.”
