The Welshman, who won 52 caps for his country, was unveiled as the successor to Dean Keates, who was appointed Walsall boss in March.

Ricketts, 36, retired from playing in 2016 after a season with Coventry City.

He was club captain as Wolves won the League One title in 2013/14 with a record points haul of 103.

Ricketts had been working within the youth coaching set-up at Championship-winning Wolves.

The Aylesbury-born stopper featured for Telford for a season in 2003/04, where he impressed and earned a Football League move to Swansea City under Kenny Jackett, who he would later join again with Wolves.

The Dragons finished 10th in this season's National League, three points from the play-offs.
