Steve Bull: Nuno and Wolves deserve to be champs

After a perfect week, it will be a big disappointment for Nuno Espirito Santo and the players if they don’t go up as champions, let alone finish second.

They’ve been top of the league since October and they’ll be desperate to lift that trophy at the end of the season.

They only need four wins to guarantee promotion but it might only take two more.

And with four winnable home games against Hull, Derby, Blues and Sheffield Wednesday that could be the 12 points we need on their own.

Personally, I think Cardiff will slip up soon and we have the chance to go there and win next month. If all goes to plan we could have the title in the bag with three games to go.

Our run-in is good on paper but Nuno won’t be looking at it like that – he repeats his ‘one game at a time’ mantra week after week and I think the fans have bought into that too.

Last week’s win over Burton was pretty easy – even easier than the win over Reading a few days earlier – and ended up a bit like a practice game.

I expected more of a fight from Burton but it was very comfortable in the second half for Wolves.

It’s been an impressive fightback from the team after that Villa defeat – and that’s something Wolves have done all season long.

They’ve never lost two in a row and that’s down to the mental attitude of the players. Some footballers can go into their shells when things go badly, whereas some stand up and be counted – I think Wolves have got far more of the latter than the former.

The gap to third is up to 13 points and that’s a very pretty lead with just eight games left. Villa slipped up alarmingly against QPR and Bolton despite easily beating Wolves. They can only do it for one game – we’ll do it for a whole season.
