Leo Bonatini unsure of Wolves future

Wolves striker Leo Bonatini says he doesn’t know whether his long term future lies at the club.

Bonatini is on loan from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal for the season and Wolves have a deal in place to buy him permanently.

It’s believed that deal is worth around £5million and the option is an exclusive one for Wolves.

Bonatini started the season in fantastic form and was the league’s top goalscorer at one point, netting 12 goals in his first 20 goals for the club.

However since scoring the winner in a 1-0 derby victory against Birmingham City at St Andrew's on December 4, the 23-year-old Brazilian front-man has failed to find the net.

That's a run of 18 appearances without a goal and Bonatini has lost his place in the first team, with in-form Benik Afobe currently impressing up front with four strikes in four.

Bonatini told ESPN Brasil that he wants to stay at Wolves permanently but doesn't know what will happen.

"It’s something I still don’t know," he said.

"I’m on loan here, really, until the end of this season from Al-Hilal. I don’t know what will happen.

"But I know what I want, I want to stay.

"Here’s a place that I was able to adapt very well to the game style, it’s a game style that I like a lot, the country is a very good country, where I adapted to be able to live.

"But I still don’t know. I don’t know much about my future."

Wolves are potentially just two games from promotion if they beat Middlesbrough and Hull City and rivals Villa and Fulham both lose their next two fixtures.

The maximum they need is four victories from their final eight games – and the club has already been planning for the Premier League in terms of scouring transfer targets for the summer.

Bonatini, who is currently at home in Brazil having been given time off, say the earlier Wolves can win promotion the better, as the futures of players such as himself can be decided quicker.

"I think that the earlier we get promotion, or even the title, things are going to be planned for next season," he added.

"Because I believe that, even though everyone believes we will be in the Premier League next season, we don’t have that certainty.

"So the sooner we get promoted the club can prepare the squad and already start thinking about the next season."

Wolves have deals in place yo buy all six of their loan players when their temporary deals expire this summer.

As well as Bonatini, they have Diogo Jota, Willy Boly, Alfred N'Diaye, Ruben Vinagre and Benik Afobe on loan.

The club released a statement in January saying it had committed to buy 21-year-old forward Jota from Atletico Madrid this summer in a deal believed to be worth around £13m.
